One year ago, today

in the middle of my first NaNoWriMo, I blogged my first words. I am not bored with blogging even now, though it no longer consumes my every day, although, if it weren’t for the move and his change of careers — and damaging my eyes with too many hours on the computer in recent months — it would. I love writing in it, I love commenting here and there, I love reading, never knowing what on earth y’all will come up with. You all make the most interesting novel of all.

I am slowly working my way back to reading as many as I had before, commenting on most I read, and trying to get back to commenting on each comment here.

True to my former personality, I had great plans for my anniversary, but no follow through. True to my former personality, it bugs the heck out of me that I didn’t.

But, unlike before, it doesn’t bother me quite as much — or is it that I am just so caught up in the thrill of changes going on around me, I love change:

New surroundings, new people, new things, new home to say I will decorate and then run out of money or perseverance.

Translated that means, new chances to brainstorm: scheme, plot, design, discover, and that is what I do best and enjoy most — other than a walk on the beach with Leon in cool weather, among other things, like fingers to keyboard.

Quick decisions

We almost held out for an apartment just a block from the beach, we actually found one and there were many more for rent signs out there, but that one didn’t meet one major criteria. So, yes, we settled, but we are only 5 or 10 minutes from the beach if we decide to take morning walks… not that I expect that to happen. And we don’t pay the electric… that’s a great thing in this heat…

If this one falls through, well, there are more, but we want to get stuck into studying now, not days later after searching when the one we found is acceptable.

And remember, NaNoWriMo begins at midnight local time wherever you area… start writing! Even if you aren’t ready to write a novel, at least use it as an excuse to freewrite. I am, but not at midnight….it will have to wait until the apartment is cleaned our way…

And, go figure…. when we lived down here 3 years ago, we met more rude than not… What happened? Or are they just waiting to blindside us? Most people have been polite, a few were like non-emotional robots, pretty much ignoring us and not downright nasty in tone like before…. Keep your fingers crossed… could this be the new South Florida? Wait, uncross them for that… keep them crossed that our house sells quickly, then you can cross them for the other… grin.

Forward to go backward

At the beginning of our journey toward our dream to RV and have money to eat in our old age, I wrote that we had come up with a plan and had to go backward to move forward.

In my brilliance on our trip while looking for a hotel room in a larger city with many exits, I suggested we go to the farthest exit to book a room, thinking we would miss the rush hour traffic in the morning - and this was during afternoon rush hour. Hotels started at exit 64, we drove all the way to 75 to discover we didn’t like the area, and having been burglarized during a trip years ago, we didn’t want to increase the odds of it happening again. So, we turned around — to face the blinding sun, oops.

We carefully made our way back past other exits we didn’t like the looks of, too industrial or too rundown, to exit 68. At last, a few chains we normally were happy with! Let’s splurge, I suggested, and stay at that hotel! OOPS, another convention in town… all full at this exit.

We ended up taking a room at exit 65, hmmm, driving all those extra miles in slow, but impatient rush hour traffic, in blinding sun. We then chose the wrong restaurant…. Y’all remember, please, that the number of cars in a parking lot does not always match the quality of food or service!

I guess we went forward to go backward because of my brilliance, I obviously forgot how well moving backward to go forward had been working for us.
