So, Boring Stage Play?

I assume many of you have either seen a stage play or have considered it. If the play is well done you will enjoy it immensely, I was so surprised the first time I saw one. I thought I would, honestly, dislike it. If you haven’t seen one, at least see a bit of a free one at a local park or library, one for kids would be fine. You just might be as surprised as I was at how enjoyable it could be.

But then, there are always not so great ones. But, even if you can’t get involved in the storyline; be it poorly written script, lack of direction, or actors that have not connected with their roles, you can still enjoy it. How?

  • Worst case boredom factor: Block the actors out as if they were nagging spouses or kids, grin. Use it as a moment to reflect on life or plan your next vacation away from theatres.
  • Mid case boredom factor 1: Critique the actors. How would you do it differently - assuming you had the guts (or desire) to get on stage? Do those hairstyles or clothes take you back in time… go there, may as well, you are bored here.
  • Mid case boredom factor 2: Evaluate the playwright’s work: Have you or any you know been in the same situation as the actor is portraying on stage? How did you/they react? Did the writer try to skew the reality of that situation so far that no actor could be expected to make the scene work? No? Did the director have the characters doing unnatural things like sitting quietly with a smile on their face, when any normal person in that situation would have run in circles or thrown things or lost their ability to speak - and this was not a comedy or a demented character?
  • Best case boredom factor: So, it wasn’t done so well, sit back, and learn about life by sneaking glances at those around you. And take notes in your head for future use: You never know, you may wake up one day and have an urge to be a writer. It has been known to happen! You’re reading a blog aren’t you?

Dear Universe

In the midst of sending our Realtor an email, this popped in my head: No editing, just as it went on paper. My Muse is a strange one at times, but a heck of a lot of fun - for me. (NOTE: the water company discovered it was NOT my house that had a broken pipe…. so they have credited the 1500 gallons back…. LOL)

Dear Universe:

(Note to self: cc: house)

I realize that by telling you that I really really wanted the house to be purchased

not just by anyone but by someone who LOVED it and would not be frustrated
by their decision later — has made it more difficult to be sold.

I know someone almost fit that category, but alas, something changed her mind.

I know that everyone says I have to envision it sold for umpteen million dollars
- I came close to that by setting 365,000. That was greedy, but it wasn’t for me,
it was for Leon. He worked so very hard on the house and at his job… he rarely
played at all. People who live by the Secret, and similar, would say I should have not
qualified it by saying someone who would love it and not be frustrated… but that is
me, I can’t play those games, stupid or real… I have to say what is in my heart.

And I still want someone to find it who loves it and who will be made happy by having it,
I can’t help it… But, you know, Universe, I am sure they are really hoping you would
find it for them soon! So here is your reminder to lead them to my house… (No, not my
apartment, the man’s smoke next door when he walks outside comes in the ill fitted door!)
Don’t make them wait any longer, even if they haven’t made their wants clear yet, show some
creative thinking, Man (or Woman - don’t know how you Universes are thought of), figure
out who wants my house.

And Universe, if you really thought I may have wanted this to drag on so I could pull an,
“I told you so” on Leon… I think a few months were plenty to get that point across. You
overdid it a bit don’t you think! And to pay me back for thinking like that (assuming I
really did) you have managed to prevent Leon getting away from Florida for part of the summer,
don’t you think he needs a break from the constant reminder the fire ants are out to get him?
I mean, really now! I expected so much more of you!

So, universe, (Oh my, I guess I unconsciously downgraded you in my mind… no capital letter)..
please light a fire — NO, that is just an expression, I was going to say light a fire under your b*,
but I don’t talk like that, but I can’t find the delete key right now, my fingers are typing too fast,
for you see, Leon just walked in, and well, he already thinks I have lost it at times… so I don’t
really want him to see this… though, I know, you know, my conscious will get to me and he will!

And universe, just a reminder, please… K and the other agents, well, they aren’t paid as much
as secret agents, and if no one buys what people are trying to sell, well, there will be more starving
children on the street… why, those same children may even grow up to be poets and write bad things
about you…. I mean children in general, not hers, hers are too adorable.

Signed,

Me (the one with the mysterious pipe break that was fixed by magic)

P.S. Universe: If it really was our pipe that broke, could you let me know who the kind person
was that fixed it…. we have to say thank you, properly.

Note to world: I am laughing hysterically. I wrote this in real time, as it came out of nowhere like the rest
of my writing — no edits; Leon is just shaking his head

because I read it out loud to him in a lunatic voice (those are his words, not mine….)

No, I didn’t bother signing it, I am quite sure the Universe knows who I am by now… I have enough strange conversations with it. Tongue in cheek, y’all, though a lot of reality in there!
