Mutual Acceptance and Balance

(Contract returned and signed. Countdown, inspections, etc. One step closer to selling our house.)

Oh, and the clues… Apple iPhone 3G. Just as soon as we find time to get to it… that may be a while.

Leon tried to back out of “getting” me one, and even though I know his sense of humor, I am still not sure if he was messing with me or not, but he agreed.

But, when you think about it, other than my MacBook, I don’t buy stuff for me, nor does he. Not that we haven’t in the past had a boat, a guitar, spent money on costumes, had a stereo and an aboveground pool and taken rare vacations.

I don’t collect things or have golf clubs or tennis rackets or 60 inch TVs or even an iPod. We don’t have video games or have a boat or two cars or even a stereo anymore. I don’t buy hundreds of pairs of shoes or lots of purses or diamonds or whatever. We don’t spend money on movies or attractions or vacations right now either.

So, this will be my splurge, for him it will be extremely helpful in our business, for me it will be as well, but it will, also, something that will make me grin.

Our counter offer….

… was accepted and signed, waiting on it to make its way back from the other agent to be “official”. Fingers still crossed until mid August comes and goes…

There won’t be huge purchases to celebrate since the market dropped so much, but since it has been since last mid October trying to get a good firm qualified offer on it, we are splurging a little bit.

I bet if you thought real hard you could guess what my one purchase will be, probably even before closing, because it just happens at least one of the two needs replacing anyway….

  • No, not computers.
  • No, nothing as big as a car.
  • No, not a trip to England, you know I don’t like planes, and that may be happening next year in spite of my fears, sigh.
  • No, not our RV yet, we will have to earn the money for that - or win the lottery.
  • No, not a personal chef, that would take the lottery, too, but I need one!
  • No, not a new Hobie for Leon, he will have to earn the money for that, too.

Give up? Its brand name could remind you of food…. or computers… or teachers… or funny commercials… or….

Belated present(s), perhaps?

Leon’s birthday came and went with work as a priority, so we will celebrate it Sunday.

My friend, C, wrote a funny poem for him, sort of a sympathy poem for his birthday. What?

She was sympathizing with him having to put up with me… Made him laugh! He’s not used to surprise poems and some days he feels he needs sympathy so it was double fun. I can’ t imagine why he needs sympathy….

Oh, but I mentioned a belated presents. I was alluding to peace of mind presents!

Today we received an offer on the house. We countered, so it is a waiting game, but it feels right, and though selling it would be a major stress reliever, the next “present” was, by far, the biggest stress reliever for us.

Today we finally were able to get an appointment with S.C.O.R.E. for help with the accounting and tax end of our S Corp. I cannot tell you how calming that was. Not knowing the correct way to handle the accounting and tax end of an S Corp properly has been a major source of my going inward for months: Knowing I was probably given poor information at the beginning by our CPA, knowing that the longer it went on without being fixed the more problems it would cause, combined with my almost anal (according to others) need to do things right when money and taxes are involved - well it was not a good combination.

I had tried to get an appointment with the Broward County group months ago and after a comedy of errors (OK. I saw no comedy in it at all), I gave up trying. Later I tried their email help, chose a counselor with both an accounting agree and a law degree, figured if he couldn’t answer my questions, no one could.

Well, I used the online form and never got the automatic emailed reply back, so it never went through. After editing and reediting the information so it would be business style and not Marcia runons, I never made a copy of it before I sent it. I had no energy left to start over.

Today, I called the North Palm Beach group and the phone just rang and rang, so I called the South Palm Beach group and not only got an appointment for next week with a knowledgeable person, I had fun making the appointment, customer service ruled - and she was a veteran mac user with a sense of humor. Service with a smile made me smile.

I know they are good at what they do… perhaps that mean old Mr. Murphy of Law fame interfered the other times.

P.S. Shelly and Brian and Susan, thank you from Leon.
