Locks of Love, Love of Locks

hair one third blonde two thirds gray

Yes, it was breezy weeks ago when Leon took the photo.

I reached my personal goal, the one I put off for many years, either cutting it in frustration or by choice: once cutting it in 2002 or 2003, though it was much shorter, for Locks of Love…. it is now to my waist, though barely. See the gray, I know it is there, as the long gray strands fly in my face (and ice cream) and fall onto the floor or mesh themselves like wayward pasta on Hell’s Kitchen into my brush.

Though I know it is there, I do not see the obvious in this photo, for it shows best from behind or - above - and I can normally see either. I will not color it, for I do not choose to expose my body to yet more chemicals. I will not cut it - yet - though I know I look best with much shorter hair. Is it vanity if I cut it? Is it vanity if I don’t?

No matter. When I do cut it, it will be cut short enough that there is plenty to donate. What they can’t use for the wigs they sell - and what organization does not need money. My guess is, when we finally get our dream RV and can leave FL many months a year, all that hair will be impossible to wash using their small water tanks and it must be washed every day.. that is the day I will cut it… For now, we all need a security blanket, something that makes us smile on the occasional dark days, and selfish or not, this is mine.

Locks of Love even has a video to show you how to cut your hair to donate!

Earth Day!

Filed under Make the world better

If only every day were earth day, our world might change for the better a bit faster. Happy Earth Day!

Leon helped the earth yesterday by buying two reusable grocery bags to save some plastic from the mounds of un-deteriorated plastic at landfills and from the mouths of sea life.

Speaking of which: Do you prefer to carry the plastic grocery bags because the handles do not cut into your arm as much as thin straps? Do what many crafters are doing, cut apart a plastic bag, use if for a pattern for the bag and lining and sew it up. Of course, using natural materials do make more sense than others.

We run the A/C compressor in Florida less by using our dehumidifier to help it along. On that end, in our former Florida home, we planted trees to not only help shade the house, but put oxygen back into the air. In Washington, we opened the windows except in the most extreme cold, comfy fleece attire, hot tea, and a love of that climate helped!

If you shave your face or legs using a sink full of water or by running water, do you realize, a mere cup of water to clean your razor as you go works just fine?

Just a few of the little things we do, but multiplied and added to all the little things we all do… and then the big ones, well, you get the idea.

Cell Phone Moonlit night

Filed under Life Balance, banter, photo

Beach Moon />

Our Saturday night date — taking advantage of that rare perfect Florida weather! What you don’t see is dinner (over priced, noisy, but good food!) or his ice cream (double scoop Rum Raisin in huge waffle cone) or the limeade (no sweetener or sugar the man made just for me - it was his first made nontraditional…

What a perfect night to walk. And yes, the one below I had to adjust so the lights showed better. They were only from my cell phone, after all.

Lauderdale-by-the-Sea Pier

And now, back to intense work - all day and evening, but that is OK, too!
