Ain’t it great!

Posted at 2:30 pm under banter

I can break the rules, well, certain ones, like using “ain’t”, because it just feels good - and today just feels good!

Yesterday was that second of those two near perfect days, and Leon and I had a really hard time leaving Brian, Diane, Mattie, Anne, and Rose after a too quick lunch yesterday. They are all so nice - and fun - and as a group, I am sure had we looked there would have been a few business men shooting us those looks as they attempted to conduct business on their cell phones over our many conversations and laughter.

I broke rules yesterday, too. I actually had a margarita at lunch. I believe that is a first for me (at lunch, I mean…), but since Leon and I are working nearly every waking moment, it was a nice change. Besides, it gave Leon another opportunity to either (or both) shake his head at me or crack up. (OK, I’m also blogging and spouting poetry, but except for that, work is our temporary life now.)

And work is going well, too. Think about it… as much as I loved some of my jobs, I always thought I would love to work with Leon, even knowing we can both be hard a**es at times about wanting things OUR way — and it not only happened, it is more than I dreamed and some of which I did (the hard a** part, grin). But the cool thing is, we both just want it done right - and we both realize that in business situations our way doesn’t have to be the right way just because we thought of it… we are willing to hear out the the other person. (Let’s hope that continues!) Now, in personal lives… well, let’s just say sometimes being right gets blown out of proportion by one or the other of us, in our own minds at least… not that I would ever admit to that, but in nearly 34 years of marriage we have almost adjusted to that little giant negative! (You did pick up on the “little” and “giant” in the same breath, right?)

So, we are just barely over halfway to 114 years old; only almost 34 years into our projected 90 years of marriage. And it appears we will survive working together. I would say all that qualifies as “Ain’t it great!” Now, if we could just get more hours in the day so we could get back to our walks on the beach….

And Brian, for the record, Leon admitted to saying my dreams weren’t his yesterday, just to throw it out there. I bet he never got around to telling you the only dream that is his and not mine: to sail around the world. He just better find someone to keep me company and spoil me while he is gone if he ever succeeds at living that one!

P.S - Make that three near perfect days in a row now. We were refunded 50 percent of our yearly premium for his Commercial Liability Insurance! No warning, just a decent check in the mail to pay for all the ink we are using up! I called, laughing, asking if it was safe to deposit it - or was it a joke! She assured me the company had apparently decided not to up the rates as planned… but next year, don’t expect this rate. And then, Leon had time between meetings to take me for a quick lunch - and the weather was perfect, again. So, world, I’m grateful, and I know the other great things are on their way!

I hope y’all are having great days, too… all of you.

” I actually had a margarita at lunch.” It doesn’t get much better than that.. we should do lunch sometime.. early and often :)

I like that early and often part, Shelby!

Marcia, we all had a great time at lunch with you and all you girls were too funny.

I was surprised that Leon was so honest… and he didn’t even drink!

Leon, so honest? What are you referring to, Brian? And for the record, you two men were funny, too, straight or not!

It sounds as if life is grand, my friend. I’m glad to see that. I was worried when you picked up and moved. I guess since I don’t do “change” well, I project that on others. I’m just bummed that I didn’t get to meet you as y’all went driving across the nation! Maybe on your next trip…

I’m not missing you a second time, Shelly. I’ll camp out front if I have to, grin. Grand for now! Thank you for your past worry.
