TV at the gas pumps? Reality check needed
I try not to mouth off too much here, but TV news, weather, etc., plus advertisements on each gas pump makes no sense to me. In fact, if I were able to vote for it, it would be a definite NO!
Picture this, I say, both seriously AND in fun:
- Pump not working too well, he/she is engrossed in news or video advertisement on TV, gas goes all over his/her tennis shoes or new suit/fancy dress. He/she freaks, blaming it on everyone but self: had he/she paid attention, it wouldn’t have been much. Gas station personnel with attitude come out, full scale macho man/woman confrontations begin. Meanwhile, gas all over ground, lines backing up.
- Advertising targeted to one sex or the other on TV. Gas has finished pumping, credit card inserted without even looking, so mesmerized by lack of attire or facial or body expression on screen. Put in wrong card. Machine balks. Person tries same Ikea or Home Depot card ten more times badmouthing dumb machine while barely taking eyes off screen above. OOPS, line grows again.
- Several people pumping gas at once, eyes glued on TV… Sneak thief sees opportunity, gets everyones stuff at once. OOPS. Line grows while waiting for police to arrive. No room to move cars to the side. Gas station temporarily closed.
- Major disaster somewhere. TV news. No one leaves after pumping gas. Eyes glued to that little screen. Want to see what will happen next; radio in their car won’t do. Line for gas in panic snakes down the road, up the exit ramp and onto the freeway. Ten car pileup.
And that doesn’t even take into account when teenagers or kids are involved….
