In the Clouds
Clouds seem to just float in the sky, but they are the result of work. It takes work to get all that moisture sucked back up from earth to sky. It may not be us doing the work consciously, but indirectly or behind the scenes. We shed tears, we water plants, we turn on faucets and adjust the hot water to create steam, and we breathe. All of those put moisture in the ground or the air to be sucked up, so to speak to create clouds.
Those clouds do more than just decorate the sky or provide shapes for us to seek. They do more than just continue the cycle. They provide shade, they hold in or out temperatures. As clouds glide through the sky they provide gentle movement for our eyes. And so on.
Clouds are beautiful, but work is involved — much of it easy. Have you thought about how easy it can be to volunteer? Surprisingly easy in some cases.
-
Can you hand out a balloon or a water bottle for just one afternoon or evening? Can you help clean up after just one event?
-
Can you visit someone for 15-30 minutes 3 times a month to just chat? Someone that would NEVER have a visitor other than an overworked nurse or aid?
-
Can you eat lunch with a child at school just one day a week?
-
Can you spend 45 minutes (approximate delivery time) driving meals from a kitchen to an adult day care center?
-
Can you help make accessible, older documents, by typing them exactly as they were written, including turning off your spell check and sense of perfect grammar? That volunteer effort can be done from home.

(The quick search for volunteer opportunities is top right of the page. I found over 900 listings just for virtual opportunities.)
Find volunteer opportunities short term, long term, by zip code, state, etc. - even virtual opportunities. Two amazing sites: so many different ways there are to volunteer.

Mountain Clouds

Pretty clouds.
I simply do not have time to volunteer. Maybe when I retire to write my books, I’ll be able to.
Gorgeous!!!
Marcia, you are such a generous spirit! This is a well written piece (as always). Are you sure you didn’t work as a public relations expert for charity in another life?
Thanks, Damien! It truly was a gorgeous day that day.
Brian, I write about it, but have not volunteered except in minor ways in recent years, I hope that will change soon! As quickly as you write, you will have time to volunteer when you retire, of course, you may be too busy signing autographs.
Thanks, Shelly, but I just write from the heart and hope it makes sense to someone. I want everyone to do something charitable, however small. Many of us do, we sometimes don’t even recognized what we do as charitable when it is, but there is so much more needed and some of it only takes a few minutes, although, you, of all people, no how some of it takes more like every waking minute and then some.
