TT - 17 Things Kids Use Afghans FOR

2. warming the body (can’t function if those bones are frozen) 3. warming the mind (or is that the heart? Why not both! - then they could count all the holes, now that would warm up the brain!) 4. making a tent (where else are they going to tell secrets?) 5. hiding the flashlight (well except for the holes) 6. sharing with a friend (an ahhh moment) 7. decorating a chair or bed (a kid’s gotta rest sometime!) 8. making wings of Angels (to go where others can’t sneak in) 9. making wings of Eagles (to soar above and look menacing) 10. making a sail with a broom (Peter Pan has nothing on a creative sailor) 11. folding into a soft pillow to dream on (or pad the boat’s hard seat) 12. sticking fingers through to see if they will fit (or as the biggest of all wedding rings in the history of mankind 13. sticking nose through to see if anyone can guess who you are 14. to create patterns on the wall when a lamp/flashlight is behind it 15. as a shawl to be in the play as granny or This Eclectic Life’s Shelly (she’s going to pay me back for that, I am sure! 16. as a cape to be Superman’s stylish cohort 17. as Rapunzel or Lady Godiva’s hair after a visit to a salon in the 90’s.Note: Why am I writing about afghans - and kids? I’m supposed to be sleeping to save my energy for Austin tomorrow. I can’t see to write this, but thank you, thank you. When I wake up in the morning, before we leave, I will link this on the SAS update page. Hugs to you. You are so creative.
I can never sleep when I am going somewhere that requires energy, I think I want to prove to myself I don’t need no stinking sleep — but time and again I prove the opposite. I am glad you liked my creativity today! - I wish my creativity would magically create one knitted or crocheted square each from well over 6000 people! Feel free y’all to take a major hint from that last remark! It will take over 6000 people to make that “magic” happen!
I loved this. My grandmother made an Afghan just for me when I was little, which I still have. I used to use it for some of these exact things & reading this brought back some very fun memories.

Rasmenia, that’s really great that my post brought back memories! Our memories are so much a part of our lives and who we become — I am hoping this post will encourage people to share those memories in some way with other children, whether verbally, in writing, in painting, in song - or by knitting or crocheting or even sewing an afghan for a child. For that matter — for an adult. . . .

I always wanted a Afghan made for each of my children and given too them.
I have four kids. Never received one for the first three….so when #4 came around, I had someone make a Afghan for him. He loves it and I treasure it.

Surpina - It is wonderful that you were able to get one for the third child. I never thought to get one for our son, he is now 29, I think I will start knitting one now — just in case he has grandchildren, thanks for the reminder!

Shelby, so glad you love it - I can’t wait to be around a child playing like that again, although much of that list was just my imagination. Playing is so freeing. Wrapping up in an afghan afterward is so warming to our hearts. Thank you for commenting.
