Share A Square - One more giant step, more needed!
So, you can’t crochet, your site has a policy against promoting things, even charity, you don’t have a blog, you can’t knit either, no one in your family knits or crochets, they don’t even blog. Now what? How can you help? One simple conversation, email, or phone call! Anyone can do that, right?
Teamouse at TeaTime ramblings mentioned it to a knit/crochet group at church, that’s all the effort it took her, they jumped at it! She chose to highlight them in her Wordless Wednesday post here. Skip on over there and have a look.
I made a simple email to the Ben Franklin Craft and Frame Store in Monroe, WA. Donna replied and ran with it, not just sharing the idea with the Yarn Yoga knit/crochet group that meets there on Wednesday nights, but with other employees. Now, I had volunteered to ship them all, figuring since I don’t knit fast enough to accomplish much myself. When I arrived last night, Donna smiled and said something to the effect of you may wish you had never asked us to do this since you offered to do the shipping. Well, that lit up my face! I walked up to be handed 156 squares! Each one beautiful and what a range of colors! That is just 4 shy of 4 afghans! Can you believe it? I didn’t. I did a recount, as if they were votes or something. They don’t even know yet how many, I have to email Donna. And for the record, the link to them is not something they know or expect, I just loved the generosity of their employees and customers. They set an example — but luckily for the world, they are not the only ones that live that way.
Twelve women participated! The women were eager to do more. . . . Donna had even been checking This Eclectic Life to see how many squares had come in. She is wonderful to have shared it with so many people and if you saw her smile, you would know it without even a conversation. Each woman in the group had beautiful smiles as well. Two even offered to teach me to crochet.
Now if someone would just teach me how to add button links in Wordpress, I could get this blog back where it should be with the Share a Square logo at the top of this post. I will be able to get Leon’s camera later this morning to take a quick picture of the squares before I get them shipped to Shelly. They are too beautiful not to be shared!

That is amazing!!! I think it’s really only a matter of asking people and they’ll pull through for the cause. Job well done!
Tea Mouse - thanks, but all I did was ask - by email, no less! Kind of like you asking your church groups and they created a beautiful afghan!
